Reflections from the Founder
NEPC 1.0
What do players think about NEPC so far?
Our Rye, NH club opened in the fall of 2022 and has become known for our positive, welcoming staff and community, the consistent caliber of our events and strength of our players, the cleanliness of our facility, our professional quality court surface, and a club that has a lengthy membership waitlist!
Looking back further, when I returned to the east coast from California in 2020, I noticed that the skill ratings varied significantly depending on which region of New England I was teaching in. This wasn't surprising: pickleball was and still is a new, emerging sport, and, players spread across different areas simply don't have a good source of truth to measure themselves against.
Fast forward to today, NEPC has garnered a bit of a reputation for “tough” skill ratings. The measuring stick that my team and I use is grounded in a commitment to reflect accurate competitive levels, and we stick to it. We do the legwork to constantly review the results of our members and active non-members who compete in strong 19+ regional or 19+ national tournaments, and use those results as our benchmarks for everyone who comes to NEPC. This ensures that everyone who plays at NEPC — members and non-members alike — receives a rating that aligns with the most reliable and consistent standards available.
Competitive or social? We adapt to you.
Do you have to compete in tournaments or climb our ladders to get an NEPC skill rating? Definitely not! We aim to deliver an exceptional experience for everyone, whether you're here for fun or to compete. If you have competitive scores from tournaments or our ladders, great – that makes our job easier. If not, the NEPC team will evaluate your skills and give you a rating, at no cost, that will reflect national competitive standards and the standards at our club, to ensure you're matched competitively whenever you come to Rye, Middleton, or any future NEPC.
NEPC 2.0
We've done a lot of things right, but we know the areas where we have room for improvement, enhancement, and growth. Leveraging everything we've learned in the last year and a half, we're gearing up for big enhancements to the NEPC system, most notably around our skill-based recreational play and our competitive ladder. These upgrades will be tested at NEPC Rye throughout 2024 and be ready for NEPC Middleton's opening.
