Looking Back

Reflections from the Founder

NEPC 1.0

What do players think about NEPC so far?

Our Rye, NH club opened in the fall of 2022 and has become known for our positive, welcoming staff and community, the consistent caliber of our events and strength of our players, the cleanliness of our facility, our professional quality court surface, and a club that has a lengthy membership waitlist!

Looking back further, when I returned to the east coast from California in 2020, I noticed that the skill ratings varied significantly depending on which region of New England I was teaching in. This wasn't surprising: pickleball was and still is a new, emerging sport, and, players spread across different areas simply don't have a good source of truth to measure themselves against.

Fast forward to today, NEPC has garnered a bit of a reputation for “tough” skill ratings. The measuring stick that my team and I use is grounded in a commitment to reflect accurate competitive levels, and we stick to it.  We do the legwork to constantly review the results of our members and active non-members who compete in strong 19+ regional or 19+ national tournaments, and use those results as our benchmarks for everyone who comes to NEPC. This ensures that everyone who plays at NEPC — members and non-members alike — receives a rating that aligns with the most reliable and consistent standards available.

Competitive or social? We adapt to you.

Do you have to compete in tournaments or climb our ladders to get an NEPC skill rating? Definitely not! We aim to deliver an exceptional experience for everyone, whether you're here for fun or to compete. If you have competitive scores from tournaments or our ladders, great – that makes our job easier.  If not, the NEPC team will evaluate your skills and give you a rating, at no cost, that will reflect national competitive standards and the standards at our club, to ensure you're matched competitively whenever you come to Rye, Middleton, or any future NEPC.

NEPC 2.0

We've done a lot of things right, but we know the areas where we have room for improvement, enhancement, and growth. Leveraging everything we've learned in the last year and a half, we're gearing up for big enhancements to the NEPC system, most notably around our skill-based recreational play and our competitive ladder. These upgrades will be tested at NEPC Rye throughout 2024 and be ready for NEPC Middleton's opening.

The closest thing to pickleball heaven on earth in New England. We love to come here when visiting family in Portsmouth. We had a lesson with Riley and he was kind and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend for the casual pickleball learner or the diehard picklehead.
Ian Lever
We played here today for the first time ever on a “real” Pickleball court instead of a tennis court. It was phenomenally excellent, the staff was so nice, they have free paddles and balls to use if don’t have anything to play with. The facility was super clean and I was told how to get a court for 50% off in the future. I had a few questions about the rules and the staff happily explained them to me.

Try it, especially if you play or did play tennis in the past.

Definitely the nicest pickleball facility around!   The courts are well lit and the playing surface is pristine.    All of the courts are individually fenced in, so your group can have uninterrupted play.     If you are looking to advance your game, I'd recommend getting lessons here.   Dave is one of the most qualified instructors around.  He's very welcoming to new player, but also has the ability to coach some of the best players around.

Michael Morello

Blown away by the club. It is an amazing facility with flawless courts, great lighting, and thoughtful touches for players (seating, bag storage). The owner (Dave) is awesome and he staff has been welcoming and helpful as we are new members of the club. The online court booking system works really well. Nothing but impressed with the club so far.

Terrance Allen

I'm so thankful to have found NEPC. All the staff and players are extremely welcoming and I've made several new friends since joining. One of my favorite aspects is the group play. The club does an amazing job facilitating games and offers plenty of different options whether you're looking for more social open play or some competitive group play to improve your game. Definitely be sure to stop in and check it out!

Anna

The staff, facility and opportunities for group play are all fantastic. It's easy to book court time, and the club offers a great variety of clinics and workshops. Warning: it's habit forming!

Ann Peters

I have been a member at NEPC since day one. Love it! I have met so many new friends/players. Dave is an excellent instructor. The daily group play schedule has improved my skills dramatically since being a member.

Brooks Stevens

I have become an avid PB player. I'm in my 50s, very active and have two artificial hips. The courts at NEPC, without hesitation, are the best surface I have played on in terms of joint recovery time. In fact, after playing for 3 hours on several occasions I needed no recovery time after playing at NEPC. I very confident I could have played all day and come back the following day starting at 7am. Terrific facility and surface; my hips thank you.

Douglas Burbank

Talk about a venue that feels like you're playing at Fenway Park.  Courts are beautiful, staff is friendly and helpful and now indoor access to both social and competitive pickleball.  Thanks for giving those of us who love to play a fabulous winter and inclement weather option.
Also, the various options for aligning up with players with the same skill level makes it even more fun.  Having access to coaching, training and lessons is icing on the cake!!  5 Stars!!!

David DiPerri

I played at NEPB recently and totally enjoyed the experience. The staff was friendly and the whole setup was great from court surface, layout, lighting, ventilation... It is obvious that this is a well thought out facility designed by someone who knows what pickleball players need to play a great game.

Sandra Laquidara

This club, the people and the surface will spoil you for all other courts and locations. I have been a member since August when they opened and I have loved my experience. I know playing here will improve my play.
